BREAKING NEWS (12:40 p.m.): Bones found in Santa Cruz Mountains identified as missing Oakland woman
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department has identified 33-year-old Chiquita Ford of Oakland as the woman whose remains were found March 7 in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Los Gatos, according to a release today from sheriff's Sgt. Don Morrissey.Details on how the identification was made were not released. The Oakland Police Department reported Ford missing in October 2007, according to the release, which also included a photo of Ford. Detectives will continue to treat the incident as a homicide.
A man collecting cans for recycling stumbled across the bones. The remains were about 50 yards down a steep slope near Beardsley Road in a canyon that drains into the small portion of Lexington Reservoir west of Highway 17.
Ford was wearing a dark-colored Coogi hooded sweatshirt.
