A way to address graffitiDear Editor: Graffiti is the art of those who do not much care for public spaces. Why can't these people accept the social responsibility of caring for other people's property? I am under the impression that graffiti destroys the beauty of our clean walls and benches and shows the anger and dissatisfaction of these uncaring people. I think the neighborhood watch committee can help city authorities erase this problem. At our own level, we all must have tried to stop such unkind acts from spoiling the beauty of public and private property.
I am requesting that the authorities of the city of Berkeley find such uncivilized people, help them learn civic duties and give them psychiatric help. If they still don't stop, they should be dealt strict punishment by police and other neighborhood watch committees. The simple punishment for them would be to clean all graffiti and become members of neighborhood watch committees to stop such nuisances and help keep public and private property clean. If people respect themselves, they will respect other's property also. And having civic rights also means that we must remember our duties toward others. We should not encourage these people to continue such antisocial acts by not taking any steps to stop this nuisance. Let us keep our cities clean.

Albany
